This is more to get your strapped in for the upcoming course this chapter provides a simple introduction.

Estimation Questions

    • The section gives you 6 action items on how to answer estimation questions.
    • Estimating the unknowns section gives you various methodologies to consider while answering estimating questions.
    • Fact Sheet: Gives estimates of numbers that would come in handy when you do estimations.
    • The solutions section go into answers for 5 estimation questions. The answers to the estimation are fairly detailed. The primary thing to remember is that this is to give you an idea of how to attack these types of questions.

Estimation questions challenge you to reason about the size, complexity, or magnitude of practically anything.

Analytical Questions

    • These questions test your analytical reasoning and ability to frame issues using concrete metrics.
    • This section goes over 3 main areas on how to answer analytical questions using A/B testing, using Metric & Data, and finally execution of the solution.
    • It also talks about new frameworks like the “Game Framework” to use in the approach of thinking about metrics.
    • The solutions to the analytical questions are pretty neat. Exponent not only gives you the solution here they also talk you through various methodologies you could use to crack similar types of problems.
    • It is important to note that some of the solutions here like the Uber ETA, Improving the Google homepage, Youtube’s key metrics are all text-based answers. While the other sections like A/B testing with Google Maps, Airbnb Recommendations are video-based.

Product Design

Product Design Questions: This type of question asks you to get creative and come up with solutions to difficult or unusual problems.

When answering product management  interview questions you need to keep the below in mind.

  1. Users personas
  2. Pian Points
  3. Ideas
  4. Vision
  5. Feature Priority
  6. Common Pitfalls

This is one of the more interesting sections of the course. It contains mock interviews with PMs from Various tech like Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn companies.

Product Strategy

Product Strategy Questions:

Gives the user an overview of Competitive analysis, Market analysis, Product Roadmaps, Business Strategy. This section also gives in-depth coverage of how to use Porter’s 5 forces with examples. This section also gives you an insight into so many more questions and sharpen your thought process on how to think through situational interview questions.

Technical QuestionsTechnical QuestionsTake-Home Assignments

Technical Questions:

The technical questions section has some very unique questions. This section also includes 4 mock interviews on technical design. But the answers are superficial.  In a real interview setting a PM would need a lot more detail and would most likely be pushed to do some system design which is not covered in this section. I wish this section was more detailed.

Behavioral, Tips, and FrameworksSample Interview Questions:

Final Conclusion

Final conclusion: Overall Exponent’s Product Management interview prep course is pretty spot on. It gives you various sample questions, several frameworks to use with examples.

And it also gives you answers to interview questions and these are answered by different people. So there is definitely a variety of ideas and frameworks to choose from.

As most of you know its not the solution that is the valuable thing. But it is to learn how to think through answers questions. You as an interviewee should use Exponents’ various answers and build your own frameworks when answering similar questions.

One thing to point out is that you can find a good portion of Exponents videos that are in the course also on their youtube channel for free. If you are unsure you can always check out their youtube product management playlist

The course is packed with so much information. If you do take this course up I would recommend going through it slowly and practicing by doing mock interviews.

Hope you enjoyed my unbiased review!
